PERU: in numbers

Being back in the US, it feels like I was never in Peru for 7 weeks of my life. It’s insane to know that not only was I there almost the entire summer, but that I start graduate school in less than a week and that I don’t have the entire summer left to just fart around, driving and listening to music while trying not to have one arm get tanner than the other because I stick it out the window for too long. (Speaking of: what are the kids listening to these days? I’ve missed all the top summer hits; being in South America for 7 weeks will do that to ya.)

I’ve been thinking a ton about all of the random things that I was able to accomplish while in Peru for so long, some done purposefully, others happening without me noticing, and still others that I was unwillingly forced to do (I’m looking at you, TARANTULAS). I know that soon enough, I shall forget most of this (re: all of this) because of my ridiculously weak memory and seemingly early-onset Alzheimer’s – in efforts to delay this, I have mapped my trip out in numbers.

  • innumerable selfies with as many animals as possible
  • 45 days total spent in Peru

  • 12 in country flights
  • 11 handstands (barely) achieved in various locations
  • 9 games of soccer football played
  • 7 times I talked about cats with my host family because “gato” is one of the only Spanish words I know
  • 5 modes of transportation used: boat, tuk tuk, bus, plane, bicycle
  • 4 peaks summited on the Lares Trek
  • 4 regions of Peru visited
  • 4 times Harry Potter movies were spotted being played at restaurants or hotels
  • 2 festivals / fiestas visited
  • 2 furry and freaky tarantulas held
  • 2 visits to Machu Picchu
  • 1 wave caught at the beach of Cerro Azul
  • 1 guinea pig devoured and 1 kept alive for friendship
  • 1 crazy (and awesome) coca leaf reading by our Lares Trek guides
